Polar bears’ reproductive rate is among the lowest of all mammals. Females reach maturity at the age of four- to five-years-old and usually give birth to two cubs. Mortality is high during the cubs’ first year of life, and depends largely on the mother’s health. Cubs will stay with their mother for two and a half to three years. Bears can live anywhere from 20 to 30 years. That means a typical female will have five or six litters during her lifetime, of which two in three cubs will die within their first two years. With such a slow-to-reproduce animal, bad polar bear management could have dramatic consequences on their numbers. Mother bears and their cubs generally emerge from their dens in March or April, when the cubs are strong enough to survive outdoors and are ready to make the trek to the ice. This period also coincides with the seals’ birthing season on the pack ice — easy meals for the mother bears who have been fasting for as long as eight months at this point. #explorecanada #cangeotravel #cangeo #sharecangeo #jsn.ptrsn #enjoycanada #paradisecanada #tourcanada #imagesofcanada #ParksCanada #polarbear #wapusknationalpark #climatechange #gratitude #natgeo #EarthCapture #BBCEarth #natgeowild #EarthonLocation #yourshotphotographer #ourplanetdaily #fantastic_earth #roamtheplanet #nikonNoFilter #NikonEurope #lowepro #cangeotravel #cangeo #sharecangeo

“Hitching a ride” — In this particular episode a mother was resting with her two young cubs in a day den on her way to the pack ice to hunt. Day dens tend to be in wind-protected areas, where snowdrifts and trees form a natural shelter. Mama bear remained calm as our vehicle approached the location giving us the opportunity to photograph both her and the cubs for several hours before she suddenly decided it was time to leave. She flopped downhill in deep snow when one of her two cubs decided it was more convenient to hitch a ride on mama’s behind. The cub jumped up and held on with a firm bite on mama’s furry backside — a charming and totally unexpected behaviour. Wildlife photography is all about patience and perseverance. Despite the challenging conditions and long hours waiting for something to happen, the experience of witnessing something so rare is beyond price. #explorecanada #cangeotravel #cangeo #sharecangeo #jsn.ptrsn #enjoycanada #paradisecanada #tourcanada #imagesofcanada #ParksCanada #polarbear #wapusknationalpark #climatechange #gratitude #natgeo #EarthCapture #BBCEarth #natgeowild #EarthonLocation #yourshotphotographer #ourplanetdaily #fantastic_earth #roamtheplanet #nikonNoFilter #NikonEurope #lowepro #cangeotravel #cangeo #sharecangeo

«Фотографирование дикой природы — это терпение и настойчивость. Несмотря на сложные условия и долгие часы в ожидании чуда, опыт наблюдения за столь редким и необычным явлением действительно бесценен», — говорит Дейзи.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) officially classifies the polar bear as "Vulnerable" on its Red List of Threatened Species.™ The worldwide population of polar bears is  estimated to be between 22,000 and 31,000 individuals, of which roughly two-in-three — anywhere from 60% to 80% — live in Canada. Around 600 official hunting tags are licensed each year to native Inuit hunters, who can then sell those tags to non-resident trophy hunters, in some cases for tens of thousands of dollars. Local stakeholders, area residents, Aboriginal people — First Nations, Inuit and Métis — guiding outfitters, trophy hunters, scientists, researchers and politicians of all stripes all have strong opinions about fluctuations in the polar bear population, based on their own private agendas, interests and beliefs. One fact is clear, though, regardless of the debate: Climate change is real, verifiable and plain to see. And so is the threat to the species. #WapuskNationalPark #PolarBear #cangeo #travelmanitoba #manitoba #polar_bear #wildlifephotography #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeaddicts #wildlifecentral #cangeotravel #wildlifeconservation #lowepro #nikon #gratitude #climate-change #adventure #nikoncanada #nikoneurope #sharecangeo #cangeotravel

A new born Polar Bear is looking for some cuddling on the back of her mama at sunset. What a privilege to be able to observe them in their natural environment. Polar bear are unfortunately classified as a vulnerable species in the IUCN red list due to climate change and the consequent loss of habitat. Literally their habitat is melting away. #animalplanet #cute #beautiful #animal_sultans #wildlifephoto #earthfocus #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeonearth #wildlifeaddicts #natgeowild #natgeo #natgeowildlife #exploretheglobe #instadaily #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #bear #polarbear #arctic #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeaddicts #wildlifecentral #wildlifeconservation #lowepro #nikon #gratitude #climatechange #adventure #nikoncanada #nikoneurope

This week, President Obama and Prime minister Trudeau took a step to the Arctic Protection. Here is the statement "Today, President Obama and Prime Minister Trudeau are proud to launch actions ensuring a strong, sustainable and viable Arctic economy and ecosystem, with low-impact shipping, science based management of marine resources, and free from the future risks of offshore oil and gas activity,"There is still a bit of hope! #canada #canadaparks #canadawildlife #canadawild #explorecanada #manitoba #exploremanitoba #parkscanada #ourplanetdaily #exclusive_animals #exploretheworld #exploretheglobe #bear #polarbear #arctic #canadacreatives #polar #wild #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeaddicts #wildlifecentral #wildlifeconservation#lpstorytellers #lowepro #loweprobag #nikon #nikonswitzerland

In Celebration of Polar bear week Oct. 30 Nov. 5 Friday, November 4: Sign our petition asking for a fair price on carbon, and share the link with your network. This will help speed up the transition to a renewable future, saving the sea ice that polar bears depend on. http://salsa4.salsalabs.com/o/51114/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=15425&okay=true&_ga=1.212087060.167152921.1477891405 #conservation #polar #polar_bears #canada #polarbearweek #canadaparks #canadawildlife #canadawild #explorecanada #manitoba #exploremanitoba #parkscanada #naturphotography #wildlifephotography #instanaturelover #bear #polarbear #arctic #canadacreatives #polar #wild #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeaddicts #nikon #natgeowild #natgeo #lowepro #Imagesofcanada #ExploreCanada #saveourseaice
